His Excellency Sheikh Shakhbout bin Nahyan Al Nahyan, the UAE’s Minister of State, participated in a meeting hosted by the EU, US, and several other states, called “United for Peace in Sudan.”

In a speech, Sheikh Shakhbout highlighted the UAE's call to the warring parties to reach an immediate ceasefire and end the war, and to exert efforts to return to the political process to reach a permanent settlement, allow unhindered and safe access for aid, and comply with international humanitarian law.

The UAE expressed deep concern about the catastrophic and deteriorating humanitarian situation and the severe food insecurity that threatens several areas of Sudan with the risk of famine, and is working to urge the warring parties to facilitate the delivery of humanitarian aid to the areas most in need.

The UAE worked with its partners during the Geneva talks – and under the Jeddah Declaration – to reach an agreement to facilitate the immediate and safe passage of urgent humanitarian aid to civilians in need. The UAE also participated in the talks on Sudan held in Switzerland within the newly established ALPS platform, ‘Allied Platform for Promoting Life-Saving and Peace in Sudan’, which includes the UAE, Saudi Arabia, the United States, the Arab Republic of Egypt, the Swiss Confederation, the African Union and the United Nations. It focused on expanding humanitarian access in emergency situations and respecting international humanitarian law, and an estimated 3,114 tons of supplies reached nearly 300,000 people in Darfur,” His Excellency said.

Since the beginning of the crisis, the UAE has provided more than USD 230 million, allocated USD 70 million to UN agencies and humanitarian and relief organizations, and provided USD 30 million in support to Sudan’s neighboring countries,
