UAE citizens urged to return from Bangladesh

AFP

The UAE has urged its citizens in Bangladesh to return to the UAE as soon as possible due to on going demonstrations and riots in the country.

It comes following the resignation of Prime Minister Hasina, who officially withdrew from her position after 15 years of power.

Protestors stormed her home on Monday and riots and demonstrations have been taking place across the country.

In a statement, the UAE Embassy in Dhaka has urged residents to avoid areas witnessing riots and gatherings, and to be careful.

The Embassy also called on citizens to contact the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' call center and register for the "Tawajudi" service in order to provide appropriate consular services.

On Tuesday, Bangladesh's president dissolved parliament, clearing the way for an interim government and new elections.
