Expo 2020 Dubai organisers have discussed the potential postponement of the event to 2021 with stakeholders.
This comes in light of the recent developments of COVID-19 worldwide and the impact the virus will have on global preparations for the event.
The steering committee collectively agreed to explore the possibility of delaying the mega-event by one year with The Bureau International des Expositions (BIE), which is the World Expo governing body.
BIE will now be working closely with its member states and Expo 2020 Dubai organisers to establish a strategy for the potential change in dates.
Meanwhile, coordinators in Dubai will continue to assess the situation and consult closely with all stakeholders in the UAE and abroad, as the final decision can only be made by the BIE’s Executive Committee and the General Assembly.
David Bishop, Expo 2020 Dubai’s Director of Communications, shared this update with ARN.
