Dubai prepares for seamless operations at GITEX Global

WAM

Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC) has announced the completion of preparations for GITEX Global 2024 – the world’s largest tech and start up event, taking place from October 14–18 at DWTC, and from October 13 to 16 at Dubai Harbour.

In partnership with the Dubai Events Security Committee, Dubai Police and the Roads and Transport Authority, DWTC has established comprehensive operational and security plans to ensure a smooth and secure experience for exhibitors and visitors.

Key preparations focus on traffic management, visitor safety, and enhancing the overall event experience, highlighting Dubai's leading role in hosting major global events.

Recent meetings have reviewed logistical measures, traffic coordination and security protocols to manage the expected tens of thousands of local and international attendees.

Major General Abdulla Ali Al Ghaithi, Assistant Commandant for Operations Affairs at Dubai Police, emphasised the importance of following traffic guidelines and regulations, urging drivers to exercise caution and consider alternative routes to avoid congestion during the event.

To help visitors stay informed about traffic conditions, updates will be shared on social media, and drivers can activate notifications through the Dubai Police app.

Major General Al Ghaithi also recommended using alternative routes, such as Al Mustaqbal Street for those coming from Al Meydan Street and Al Sukuk Street for those arriving from Sheikh Zayed Road.

Abdulrahman Obaid Abu Al Shawareb, EVP of Protocol and Security at DWTC, stated that the scale of GITEX Global necessitates high-level readiness and coordination among stakeholders.

He encouraged attendees to utilize public transport options and plan their journeys using the GITEX mobile app, emphasizing the importance of promoting environmental sustainability.

Hussain Al Banna, CEO of the Traffic and Roads Agency at the RTA, announced that thousands of parking spaces will be available at DWTC and nearby locations, including Al Wasl Club and Dubai Mall.

Shuttle buses will transport visitors to and from these areas, with contingency plans to manage traffic flow during peak times.

Traffic lights will be monitored and adjusted based on real-time traffic density through the Dubai Intelligent Traffic Systems Centre.

Smart digital signage will guide visitors to metro services, bus routes, and alternative parking when necessary. Metro services will continue as usual, with adjustments to reduce waiting times if needed, and a dedicated taxi area will accommodate 300 vehicles near the venue.

At Dubai Harbour, the second key location for GITEX Global 2024, ample parking will be available, along with shuttle services from Palm Jumeirah’s multi-storey car park and Nakheel Metro Station, as well as marine transport connecting visitors from Skydive parking to the event site.

Traffic management will also be in place on King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud Street and surrounding roads.
