The UAE's National Emergency Crisis and Disaster Management Authority (NCEMA) has called on people to confirm the accuracy of news being circulated on social media.

During the latest government media briefing on COVID-19, the NCEMA's spokesperson emphasised the importance of obtaining information from official sources.

Dr. Taher Al Amiri said the spread of misinformation and rumours is damaging as it hinders the country’s efforts to recover across different sectors.

He also highlighted how all information and protocols on the pandemic are shared through official platforms.

Al Amiri reiterated how regular screening and a robust vaccination drive have helped the country in controlling the spread of the virus.

"To support the vaccine drive and its safe use, a national team was formed to oversee all studies and research on the COVID-19 vaccines, whether conducted by international health organisations or in the UAE," said the official.

With just a few days to go for Expo 2020 Dubai, Al Amiri hailed the UAE’s capability in managing large-scale global events with "guaranteed safety and protection for all visitors and tourists".
