Authorities in Abu Dhabi have warned the public against using certain brands of cough syrups, manufactured in India, after they have been linked to child deaths in Gambia.

Taking to their official social media handles, the Department of Health — Abu Dhabi (DoH) confirmed that the four products by New Delhi-based Maiden Pharmaceuticals Limited were not sold anywhere in the UAE but warned the public, who may have obtained the products, not to use them.

They "contain contaminated ingredients, according to the World Health Organisation (WHO)", the authority added.

In the eventuality it was consumed, the public have been advised to seek medical help if they show any "side-effects".

It comes after India said it's "seriously investigating" the deaths of 70 children in Gambia in the wake of a report that provisionally linked the fatalities to the cough syrups.
