Abu Dhabi implements new rules for construction signboards

Abu Dhabi Media Office

Abu Dhabi has announced new guidelines for construction signboards, aimed at enhancing accessibility and transparency for ongoing developments.

Under the updated rules, traditional construction signs displaying details such as project names, contractors and timelines will be replaced by QR codes.

When scanned, the code will provide the public, inspectors and regulatory authorities with live updates on the project, including key information such as location, permit status and construction specifics.

The data accessed through the QR code will be pulled from the Municipal e-Permitting System (MePS), ensuring that all information is accurate and up-to-date. This move will allow for better verification and compliance monitoring.

The Department of Municipalities and Transport (DMT) has instructed contractors to update existing signage, with the QR codes now required on all new construction sites.

This policy reflects the DMT’s ongoing efforts to improve operational standards in Abu Dhabi’s construction sector.
