Dubai World Central sees massive jump in passenger traffic

WAM

Passenger traffic at Dubai’s Al Maktoum International Airport more than doubled during the first half of this year.

It welcomed over 1.2 million travellers during the period, which is a 141 per cent increase year-on-year.

The South Asia region accounted for the bulk of passengers, while Russia was the top destination country.

The hub, also known as Dubai World Central (DWC) handled 22,127 flights in total.

The growth was mainly driven by the transfer of flights from DXB due to the runway closure for 45 days.

According to Dubai Airports, more than 900,000 of DWC's total traffic in the first half was recorded just during the 45-day period, which is equal to the terminal's entire annual passenger traffic in 2018.
