North Korean leader Kim Jong-Un and Russian President Vladimir Putin held their first summit on Thursday.

After their one-to-one meeting on an island off the Russian Pacific city of Vladivostok, the two leaders said they had had a "thorough" and "meaningful" conversation.

Putin said he believed Kim Jong-un's visit would help "bilateral relations" and "understand ways to settle the situation on the Korean peninsula".

The meetings are expected to focus on Pyongyang's denuclearisation and efforts at reducing cross-border tensions on the Korean peninsula,

It comes just two months after a second summit in Hanoi between the North Korean leader and Donald Trump failed.
