US lawmakers join calls for Puerto Rico leader to resign

ERIC ROJAS / AFP

Lawmakers in the US have demanded Puerto Rico’s governor to step down.

It comes as thousands on the island continue to hold protests for a seventh straight day.

They want Ricardo Rossello to quit after hundreds of misogynistic and homophobic chat messages from his phone were published last week.

The Telegram messages were mainly directed at fellow politicians and officials.
