Trump postpones G7 summit, seeks to invite more countries

US President Donald Trump has postponed this year's G7 summit until September, and signalled the need to include more countries.

"I'm postponing it because I don't feel that as a G7 it properly represents what's going on in the world," he said, adding that Australia, Russia, South Korea and India must be extended invitations to attend the event.

He called it a "very outdated group of countries" in its current format.

However, it's unclear whether his decision to expand the invitation list was a bid to permanently expand the G7, which currently includes the US, UK, France, Germany, Japan, Italy and Canada.
