Quake of magnitude 6.6 strikes west of Australia's Broome

An earthquake of magnitude 6.6 has struck west of Australia's beach resort of Broome.

The United States Geological Survey had initially measured it as a magnitude 6.9 quake.

It hit at a depth of 33 km, about 203 km offshore from the town in the state of Western Australia. 

There were no immediate reports of damages or casualties in the quake.

Footage posted online showed buildings shaking and groceries being knocked from shelves.
