Egypt to open border crossing for Gaza aid, says Biden

AFP

US President Joe Biden says his Egyptian counterpart Abdel Fattah El-Sisi has agreed to open the Rafah border crossing with Gaza to allow the entry of a first batch of humanitarian aid trucks into the Strip.

However, Biden added that these trucks will probably not cross before Friday because the road near the crossing needs repairs.

UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs, Martin Griffiths, estimated the people of Gaza need up to 100 trucks daily of continuous humanitarian aid.

The aid will be distributed by 14,000 United Nations employees in the Gaza Strip.

The war has killed more than 1,400 people in Israel and 3,478 people in the Gaza Strip, most of them civilians from both sides.
