Former Minneapolis police Officer Derek Chauvin, who is charged with murdering George Floyd during an arrest, had his bail set at $1.25 million at his first court appearance.
He appeared in Hennepin County District Court via a remote video feed to face charges of one count of second-degree murder, one count of third-degree murder, and one count of manslaughter.
Prosecutors cited the "severity of the charges" for increasing the bail amount from $1million.
Chauvin has been in prison for two weeks after a video footage showed him pressing his knee on Floyd's neck for eight minutes and 46 seconds.
