Adele broke down in tears at the Brit Awards on Wednesday (24.02.16) as she emerged as the main winner. The 27-year-old singer was overcome with emotion after astronaut Tim Peake announced her as the winner of the BRITs Global Success Award, live from the International Space Station, and admitted that she had been worried her comeback would not be a success. Adele - whose latest album '25' has topped the charts all over the world - said: "I can't work out if I'm crying because of that video [of her career highlights] or because Tim Peake did it. My kid is going to think I'm so cool. "I got so lost for a while and didn't know if I could come back and for you all to be so kind to me is amazing. I want to thank my manager and my amazing boyfriend." However, she managed to regain her composure to make a joke, quipping: "Not bad for a girl from Tottenham who don't like flying." She then gave a shout out to Major Peake saying: "I love you Tim and I hope you're getting enough to eat up there." Adele also won awards for British Female Solo Artist, British Single for 'Hello' and Mastercard British Album Of The Year for '25' as she emerged as the big winner at the Brit Awards 2016, in association with Mastercard. Upon picking up her award for Best Album she apologised for her "ugly cry face" and also for "swearing live on TV earlier". Speaking about her boyfriend, Simon Konecki: "I am so lucky to have you love me like you do. This album was so hard to make and you are amazing and thank you for our lovely son who is the love of my life." Joking about the 2012 awards when her speech was cut short, Adele joked: "I didn't get cut off and I didn't swear." And she also took to the stage for an incredible performance of 'When We Were Young', proving that her fears about a comeback were completely unfounded. However, Adele lost out to One Direction in the fan-voted category British Artist Video Of The Year which they won for 'Drag Me Down'. Liam Payne and Louis Tomlinson accepted the award and earlier joked that if they won they would sell Harry Styles and Niall Horan's statuettes. Meanwhile, other winners on the night included James Bay, Tame Impala, Justin Bieber, Coldplay and Bjork. Stars including Coldplay, James Bay, Justin Bieber, Jess Glynne, Rihanna and Drake and Little Mix all took to the stage at the ceremony, which was presented by Ant and Dec at London's O2. 2016 BRIT Award Winners British Female Solo Artist: Adele British Male Solo Artist: James Bay International Group: Tame Impala British Single: Adele - 'Hello' British Group: Coldplay International Male Solo artist: Justin Bieber British Breakthrough Act: Catfish and the Bottlemen BRITs Global Success Award: Adele International Female Solo Artist: Björk British Artist Video Of The Year: One Direction - 'Drag Me Down' Mastercard British Album Of The Year: Adele - '25'
