Daniel Craig quits as James Bond for US series

Daniel Craig has reportedly quit his role as James Bond in order to star in a new US television series. The 47-year-old actor has portrayed the legendary MI6 agent for nearly a decade but looks set to hand over his gun and tuxedo in time for the next movie after signing up to 'Purity'. The handsome star reportedly won't have time to reprise his role as the secret agent as the new drama, which will be the adaptation of Jonathan Franzen's novel, is expected to run for several series, according to The Sun newspaper. However, news that Daniel has decided to turn his back on the famous franchise won't come as much of a surprise to fans as he recently came under fire after he joked he would "rather slash his wrists" than do another James Bond movie. Asked if he wants to play the leading role again, Daniel said, prior to the release of 'Spectre', last year: "I'd rather break this glass and slash my wrists. No, not at the moment. Not at all. That's fine. I'm over it at the moment. We're done. All I want to do is move on." However, although Daniel - who became the highest-paid actor to play Bond after he was handed a reported $10.7 million for 'Skyfall' in 2014 - is adamant he's ready to quit the franchise, he recently claimed he may not be able to leave just yet as he'd signed a contract that requires him to make another.
