Twitter CEO Linda Yaccarino has expressed full support for Elon Musk's decision to restrict the number of tweets users can see daily.

"Twitter has a mission, and to achieve that, we need to make significant moves to ensure the platform's integrity. This work is both meaningful and ongoing," she tweeted, along with an official statement from the social network.

The statement released by Twitter highlights the necessity to maintain the authenticity of its user base, stating, "To ensure the authenticity of our user base, we must take extreme measures to remove spam and bots from our platform."

Over the weekend, Twitter users were taken aback when the social network experienced glitches without clear explanations. According to the statement, Twitter deliberately chose not to warn users in advance, as doing so "would have allowed bad actors to alter their behaviour to evade detection". The primary objective of implementing these rate limits is to prevent bots from exploiting "people's public Twitter data to build AI models" and manipulating discussions and interactions on the platform.

"At present, the restrictions only affect a small percentage of platform users, and we will provide updates as the work progresses. As for our customers, the impact on advertising has been minimal," the statement reassured.

"While this work will never truly be done, we are all deeply committed to making Twitter a better place for everyone. Sometimes, even for a brief moment, you must slow down to speed up. We appreciate your patience."

Initially, Twitter imposed limits on daily tweets, with verified users being constrained to reading 6,000 posts a day, unverified users limited to 600 posts a day, and new unverified accounts only able to read 300 posts a day. However, by the end of the day, Musk reported that the limits were raised to 10,000 posts for verified users, 1,000 for unverified users and 500 for new accounts.
