Dubai's Jafza named Global Free Zone of the Year

Jebel Ali Free Zone (Jafza) has solidified its status as a global leader in trade and logistics, taking home five major accolades at the fDi Global Free Zones of the Year 2024 awards.

In addition to earning the top spot in the overall ranking of free zones, Jafza was recognised as the Industrial Zone of the Year and the Top Sustainable Zone in both global and Middle Eastern categories.

The fDi Global Free Zones of the Year awards are highly regarded in the free zone industry, attracting 63 entries from around the globe this year.

Jafza distinguished itself through significant infrastructure investments, a strong focus on sustainability, and its ability to attract a diverse range of high-value customers.

The Industrial Zone of the Year award highlights Jafza's critical role in supporting global manufacturing and logistics, housing over 10,700 businesses that contribute significantly to Dubai's industrial output.

Meanwhile, the Top Sustainable Zone award underscores Jafza’s dedication to sustainability, including its ambitious goal of achieving net-zero emissions by 2050.

Jafza is also home to the Middle East's largest rooftop solar project, featuring 158,000 solar panels that save 48,000 tons of emissions annually and produce over 30% of Jafza's electricity needs.

Abdulla Bin Damithan, CEO and Managing Director of DP World GCC, expressed pride in Jafza's legacy as it approaches its 40th anniversary.

He said that Jafza has continually evolved to meet the changing dynamics of global commerce while fostering innovation and sustainable growth. Damithan highlighted the importance of expanding critical infrastructure and pioneering advanced technologies, aligning with Dubai’s D33 economic agenda.

Jafza's success is bolstered by strategic initiatives that enhance its appeal to global businesses, featuring an integrated logistics network that provides seamless solutions for various industries, including automotive and food and beverage.

The free zone also offers specialized warehousing and manufacturing facilities to support a wide range of sectors.

Abdulla Al Hashmi, Chief Operating Officer of Parks & Zones at DP World GCC, emphasised the importance of aligning with industry trends and maintaining a focus on efficiency to benefit tenants, reinforcing the goal of continuing to drive innovation and sustainable growth.

The fDi Global Free Zones of the Year awards, organized by fDi Intelligence, were judged by a panel of experts in special economic zones and foreign direct investment, assessing free zones across various categories, including Industrial, Knowledge, Innovation, and Rising Star Zones, with Jafza excelling in multiple areas.
